Pushkaralu Pushkaram

Pushkaram/Pushkaralu 


Pushkaram is an Indian festival dedicated to worshiping of rivers. It is also known as Pushkaralu (in Telugu), Pushkara or Pushkar.

It is celebrated at shrines along the banks of 12 major sacred rivers in India, in the form of ancestor worship, spiritual discourses, devotional music and cultural programmes. The celebration happens annually, once in 12 years along each river. Each river is associated with a zodiac sign, and the river for each year's festival is based on which sign Jupiter is in at the time. Due to regional variations, some of the zodiac signs are associated with multiple rivers. According to a legend mentioned in astrology treatises such as Jataka Parijata (1426), a Brahmin was granted a boon from Shiva after severe penance. The boon was that he would be able to live in water and purify the holy rivers. The Brahmin came to be known as Pushkara ("the one who nourishes"). On a request from Bṛhaspati (Jupiter), he decided to enter one of the 12 sacred rivers when Bṛhaspati traveled from one zoadic sign to another.

Each river is associated with a zodiac sign, and the river for each year's festival is based on which zodiac sign the planet Jupiter (Bṛhaspati) is in at that time.

Benefits of Pushkaralu:

Let us know some scientific facts.

The Sun-spot cycle which enhances the Earth’s magnetic field during a certain time (correlates with this Pushkaram time) magnetizes the river water and enhances the healing power through the water.

Such healing power will be equal to the power acquired through meditation. Hence Snana (bath), Japa (chanting), Archana (perform puja), Dana (charity) and Dhyana (meditation) are all done at such times, to enhance the power and purity of mind, body, and soul.

The magnetic power acquired and stored in water at the time of Pushkaralu will be high during the early morning before sunrise and in the noon at 12 pm.So, Pushkaralu is considered as the sacred period to take a holy dip in the river waters to purify the body and the soul. Pushkaralu is different from Kumbhamela which is held for every four years, only for a few major rivers of India.

The Pushkaram tradition is not mentioned in the early Hindu texts; it is part of the Hindu astrological lore. Therefore, the names of 12 rivers may vary depending on the regional traditions. For example, in Maharashtra, Bhima is associated with Scorpio sign, while in Tamil Nadu, Tamraparni is associated with it. The sacred rivers include

The Story of Goddess Shri Garbhrakshambika Sage Nithuvar and his wife Vedhika were living in this forest which was full of Jasmine flowers when the following incident happened which lead Parvathi devi to take the avatar of Garbarakshambika to give special protection to women during pregnancy.
In the ancient time, two Rishies ( saints ) Gowthama and Gargeya did penance in this garden of Jasmine flowers where the ashram was situated.
The story is that, Sage Nithuvar was living here with his wife Vedhika. One day when Sage Nithuvar was away, sage Urdhvapada a very angry sage visited their hermitage for alms. Vedhika was tired and sleeping deeply without showing hospitality to the sage..infact she was having pains due to pregnancy but Urdhvapada unaware of her difficulties got angry that she din’t bother to wake up and felt she could be sleeping purposely , decided to curse her .The curse made her get diseased and it also hurted the child in her womb.Vedhika was in worst pain of her life and deeply hurted that her own child is being gradually destroyed and prayed for to Goddess Parvathi to help her ….Goddess parvathi took the avatar of Garbarakshambika and appeared before Vedhika and protected her child in the womb by holding it in a “kalasam ” – divine pot..The goddess has helped the child grow in the divine pot untill it grew as full fledged child. .. here goddess herself has saved a womens pregnancy and blessed her.
When Vedhika cried as she was not able to feed the baby with her milk, A sacred cow came infront of the temple and made a lake of sacred milk. .
Vedhikai prayed to Goddess Garbarakshambika to remain in the temple forever and bless all women with good soul mate, child birth hand safe pregnancy.
Meaning of the name Garbarakshambika :
The name of the goddess carried the beautiful meaning in itself…Garba means Pregnancy, Raksha means “To protect ” and Ambika is one of the names of Parvathi devi .so she is all about protecting a womens life blessing her with a kind hearted husband,a good child and a happy family.

This is a social campaign aimed at eradication of female foeticide and raising awareness on welfare services intended for young Indian girls. The "Save the Girl Child" movement was launched on 22 January 2015, it is a joint initiative run by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Human Resource Development.Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao - The scheme was launched with an initial funding of Rs 100 crores. It mainly targets the clusters in Uttarakhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi and Haryana. In India, the child gender ratio in the age group of 0 - 6 years stood at 931 girls for 1000 boys and it dropped to 918 girls for every 1000 boys in 2011. Sex - selective abortion or female foeticide in India has led to the sharp decline in the ratio of girls born in contrast to the boys in some states in the country. The wide gap in child gender ratio was first noted in 1991 when the national census data was released and it turned out to be a worsening problem after the release of 2001 national census data. To bridge the growing gap between the birth of girl and boy infants, the government of India has taken up an initiative to promote Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and many programmes has been organized to promote ‘Save Girl Child' and to ‘Educate Girl Child', since January 2015. The campaign has also received support from the Indian Medical Association.

Mahila E-Haat is an initiative for meeting the aspirations and needs of women entrepreneurs. It is an online marketing platform for women, where participants can display their products. The initiative applies to all women across the country as a part of ‘Digital India’ and ‘Stand Up India‘ initiative. The platform has been established by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India under Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK).

Women can register themselves at www.mahilaehaat-rmk.gov.in and leverage technology for showcasing their work to a broader market.

Among the many services provided by Mahila-E-Haat is facilitating direct contact between the vendors and buyers, sensitisation, advocacy, training, packing and soft intervention workshops, and offering a web-based approach. Open to all Indian women above the age of 18, this platform offers an easy sign-in process and convenient payment modes. Everything can be handled on a mobile with no other intervention required. The portal claims to have attracted 17 lakh visitors since its launch and features over 2,000 products and services across 18 categories from 24 states.

Popularly known as 'Sakhi,' it was implemented on 1st April 2015 with the 'Nirbhaya' fund.Till date, around 234 OSCs have been established across the country to provide integrated support and assistance under one roof to women affected by violence, both in private and public spaces in a phased manner.The One Stop Centres are established at various locations in India for providing shelter, police desk, legal, medical and counselling services to victims of violence under one roof integrated with a 24-hour Helpline.

Mahila Shakti Kendra The government launched the Mahila Shakti Kendra in 2017 to empower rural women with opportunities for skill development, employment, digital literacy, health and nutrition.

The Mahila Shakti Kendras will work through community engagement through student volunteers in the 115 most backward districts. Each Mahila Shakti Kendra will provide an interface for rural women to approach the government to avail of their entitlements through training and capacity building. It works at the National, State, District, and Block levels.

How to apply for Mahila Shakti Kendra Scheme:

At the state level technical support on issues related to women is being provided through State Resource Centre for Women(SRCW) functional under the respective State Government /UT Administration. SRCWs are meant to facilitate implementation of all women centric schemes and programmes of the government,including the district and block level component of MSK Scheme.

Indian women, who have to stay away from their homes for job purpose or do not have anyone to house them, often suffer from insecurities related to safety. The central government has passed a new scheme that is designed for meeting the housing requirements of working or helpless women. The name of the program is Working Women Hostel Scheme and will include children under special circumstances only. The main objective is to empower women.

The objective of the scheme is to promote the availability of safe and conveniently located accommodation for working women, with daycare facility for their children, wherever possible, in urban, semi-urban, or even rural areas where employment opportunity for women exist.

The Swadhar scheme was launched by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development in 2002 for rehabilitation of women in difficult circumstances. The scheme provides shelter, food, clothing and care to the marginalized women/girls who are in need. The beneficiaries include widows deserted by their families and relatives, women prisoners released from jail and without family support, women survivors of natural disasters, women victims of terrorist/extremist violence etc. The implementing agencies are mainly NGOs.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development is implementing the Swadhar Greh Scheme which targets the women victims of difficult circumstances who are in need of institutional support for rehabilitation so that they could lead their life with dignity. The Scheme envisages providing shelter, food, clothing and health as well as economic and social security for these women.

7.Support to Training and Employment Programme for Women (STEP):

 8.Nari Shakti Puruskars Scheme:
Every Year, Ministry of Women & Child Development celebrates International Women's Day on 8th March. The significance of the International Women’s Day lies in our re-affirmation of improve the condition of women, especially those at the margins of our society and empower them to take rightful place in society.Ministry of Women and Child Development, has revised the guidelines for Women Awards for conferring on eminent women, organisations and institutions.These awards will be called “Nari Shakti Puruskars”. Now, from the year 2016,20 Nari Shakti Puruskars shall be conferred every year. The awards will be conferred on 8th March on the occasion of International Women’s Day (IWD). The Award in each category shall carry a Certificate and a cash amount. The award would be given to eminent or outstanding Institutions or organizations and individuals.With the institution of these awards all the earlier women awards given by the Ministry of Women & Child Development ceased to exist.

Nari Shakti Awards, earlier known as Stree Shakti Awards was constituted by the government of India in the year 1991. Nari Shakti Awards provide an opportunity to understand the contribution of women in the building of society and the nation.

 11.Mahila Police Volunteers:
The Mahila Police Volunteers Scheme was launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in collaboration with the Home Affairs for the engagement of MPVs in the States and UTs. It is a central sector scheme that intends to serve as a public-policy interface to help women in distress. This scheme envisages the creation of a link between the police authorities and the local communities to facilitate police outreach on gender concerns.

 12.Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Scheme:
India is home to more than 24 Crore households out of which about 10 Crore households are still deprived of LPG as cooking fuel and have to rely on firewood, coal, dung – cakes etc. as primary source of cooking. The smoke from burning such fuels causes alarming household pollution and adversely affects the health of Women & children causing several respiratory diseases/ disorders. As per a WHO report, smoke inhaled by women from unclean fuel is equivalent to burning 400 cigarettes in an hour. In addition, women and children have to go through the drudgery of collecting firewood.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) aims to safeguard the health of women & children by providing them with a clean cooking fuel – LPG, so that they don’t have to compromise their health in smoky kitchens or wander in unsafe areas collecting firewood.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on May 1st, 2016 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. Under this scheme, 5 Cr LPG connections will be provided to BPL families with a support of Rs.1600 per connection in the next 3 years. Ensuring women’s empowerment, especially in rural India, the connections will be issued in the name of women of the households. Rs. 8000 Cr. has been allocated towards the implementation of the scheme. Identification of the BPL families will be done through Socio Economic Caste Census Data.

PMUY is likely to result in an additional employment of around 1 Lakh and provide business opportunity of at least Rs. 10,000 Cr. over the next 3 Years to the Indian Industry. Launch of this scheme will also provide a great boost to the ‘Make in India’ campaign as all the manufacturers of cylinders, gas stoves, regulators, and gas hose are domestic.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme has three levels:

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme provides the financial support for higher education and marriage purposes to Girlchild. Indian Government set the 100 crores budget for this scheme.

This plan is being managed at three levels as mentioned below:
National Level maintain by National Task Force Secretariat MWCD

  • A family should have Girl Child
  • A family should open the SSA (Sukanya Samriddhi Account) in any bank

Steps to apply for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme:
  • Applicants need to visit any bank branch or post office where this scheme is available
  • Then collect the application form for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme/Sukanya Samriddhi account
  • Fill the form manually and attach all the required documents
  • Submit that form to the concerned officer in bank/post office
  • Under this scheme, account should be open for a name of Girl child
  • You can easily transfer the BBBP account from one bank to another bank or bank to post officer or vice versa
Who will manage this Sukanya Samriddhi account?
Sukanya Samriddhi account can be opened by girl below 10 years of age and this account can be managed by parents or guardian at daughter below age. After that Girl can manage her own account

The special interesting feature of this account is yearly 9.1 interests will be given and the rate can also be increased in future. Minimum deposit of account is Rs 100 per year (it is Mandatory) otherwise the account will be closed
SSA account rules:
  • The maturity of account is 21 years from the application date
  • The depositor can withdraw 50% money at age of 18 years of Girl child for her marriage or education
  • This scheme can open at any bank and post offices
  • The account will open up to 10 years of age
  • The amount paid will tax benefit under section 80C
  • After maturity, the entire amount will credit to Girl Child account after adding interest

How to calculate maturity value of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana:
Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a small deposit scheme for the girl child launched as a part of the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign. One of the reasons why this scheme has become popular is due to its tax benefit. It comes with a maximum tax benefit of Rs 1.5 lakh under section 80C of the Income-tax Act. Further, the interest accrued and maturity amount are exempt from tax.

If you are planning on investing in the scheme, you can use the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana calculator to calculate the maturity amount at the end of the tenure. You can use the calculator to find out how much you can approximately save via this scheme for the daughter's higher education and/or marriage.

Who can use SSY calculator?
To use this calculator, one must satisfy the eligibility conditions of the Sukanya Samriddhi scheme. According to the rules, the following people are eligible to open a Sukanya Samriddhi account:
a) Age of girl child should not exceed 10 years
b) She should be a resident citizen of India
c) Account cannot be opened for more than two girl children in a single family

How to use Sukanya Samriddhi calculator:
If you satisfy eligibility conditions, then the calculator will ask you to provide the age of your daughter/s and amount that you want to invest in the scheme. The minimum amount you can invest is Rs 1,000 and maximum is Rs 1.5 lakh in a single financial year. With effect from 5 July, 2018, the government has reduced the minimum investment amount to Rs 250.

How the calculator works:
The calculator, based on the amount entered by you, calculates the approximate value that will be received by you at maturity. The scheme will mature after the completion of 21 years from the date of opening of the account.

According to the scheme rules, a depositor is required to make deposits every year till the completion of 15 years from the date of opening of account. Here, the calculator assumes that you have made all the deposits every year of the same amount as selected by you.

Between the 15th year and 21st year, no deposits are required to be made. However, you will be earning interest on the earlier deposits made. The calculator takes into account the interest that will be accrued to you during those years.

What does the calculator show?
Depending on the information provided by you, the calculator will show you the year in which the account matures, the maturity value, interest rate using which the maturity value is arrived at. It also shows the break-up of amount that you can invest monthly in the scheme.

While arriving at the maturity value, we have assumed interest rate of 8.1 per cent per annum throughout the next 21 years as it is currently offered in the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana.

Zëri i Popullit (English: Voice of the People) is an Albanian daily newspaper.Zëri i Popullit was established on 25 August 1942 and originally edited by Enver Hoxha. It became the official newspaper of Albania and was the news and propaganda organ of the Party of Labour. After 1991 the paper continued to be published as the press organ of the same party that in June 1991 changed its name to Socialist Party of Albania.

At the beginning of the 1990s the circulation of Zëri i Popullit was 20,000 and it was the second best-selling paper in the country. In 2002 the paper had a circulation of 5,167 copies. Its 2005 circulation was 35,000 copies, making it the most read daily in the country. It reached the peak of circulation in 2005, with 35.000 copies.

Zëri i Popullit stopped print publications in November 2015, following a decision by the PS leader Edi Rama. It persists as an online information website.
